On Portugal Day, we wanted to do something for the Portuguese living abroad. That's why we went to New Jersey. Because to be truly Portuguese, the sardines have to be from our coast, fresh, or how we say in portuguese: pequeninas e boas. And they couldn't get there by land or sea, they could only get there by flying.
We Portuguese like to keep traditions, wherever we are. And June is the month of many of them. There are “marchas”, “bailaricos” and “arraiais” all over the world. But far from home the main ingredient is always missing: our sardines.
